Results: 2022 Turgut Cansever Prize
Antalya Kepez Municipality, in cooperation with the Antalya Branch of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, has announced the results of the 2022 edition of “The International Contextual Architecture Awards in memory of Architect Turgut Cansever”. The award is endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA).
On 12 February, the international jury decided not to attribute the Turgut Cansever Local Award, but distributed the other categories of the Award as follows:
The Turgut Cansever Grand Prix was awarded to Dr. Rasem J. Badran for his lifelong commitment to a contextual approach to the contemporary built environment prioritises local and regional identity as well as environmental sensibilities.
The Turgut Cansever International Award was awarded to Contextual Architecture in the Bremban Valley: A Contemporary Mountain Village in the Bremban Valley by Magnati Lara, a work which embodies the values espoused by Turgut Cansever.
The Jury also attributed Honourable Mentions to Voyage Torba Hotel by Abdurrahman Çekim and to Renovation and Redevelopment of the Old Muslim Cemetery Kirkhlyar in the City of Derbent, Republic of Dagestan, Russian Federation, Denis Chistov, Grigory Guryanov, Yana Kotelnikova, Valeriya Bazinovskay.
The award ceremony will be held during the week of February 22, the anniversary of Turgut Cansever’s death.
Theme and objectives
The Award recognises architects and work that exhibit original interpretations of Turkish architect Turgut Cansever’s design principles, including cultural continuity, regional values and distinctive local attributes. The award seeks to highlight the importance of local identity in a globalised world.
The Awards are divided into three parts:
- The Turgut Cansever Grand Prix, which recognises an architect whose lifelong commitment to a contextual approach to the contemporary built environment prioritises local and regional identity as well as environmental sensibilities.
- The Turgut Cansever International Award, attributed to an architectural project by an architect or architectural firm from any country in the world. The project should embody the values Turget Cansever emphasised in his own work.
- The Turgut Cansever Local Award is attributed to an architectural project realised in the province of Antalya, Turkey and embodying the values Turgut Cansever emphasised in his own work.
Eligibility
The award is open to architects from all countries who have realised projects, either individually or as a team.

Turgut Cansever Grand Prize: 25 000 TL (approximately 2 315 Euros)
Turgut Cansever International Prize: 20 000 TL (approximately 1 852 Euros)
