ECOSOC – UN Economic and Social Council Chamber

The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals.

IOC – International Olympic Committee

The mission of the IOC is to promote Olympism throughout the world and to lead the Olympic Movement. The UIA works with the IOC to provide expert advice on the design of Olympic facilities.


UN-Habitat works in over 90 countries to promote transformative change in cities and human settlements through knowledge, policy advice, technical assistance and collaborative action. UN-Habitat’s new strategic plan 2020-2023 adopts a more strategic and integrated approach to solving the challenges and opportunities of twenty-first century cities and other human settlements. The UIA works with UN-Habitat on numerous issues, most recently the UIA 2030 Award to promote the work of architects contributing to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation

UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture. UNESCO’s programmes contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. UNESCO and the UIA work together on a number of topics related to the built environment, notably the regulation of architectural design competitions.

WTO – World Trade Organisation

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.
